Police Investigating After School Bus Damaged by BB’s

by Detective Patrick Michaud (originally published on SPD Blotter)

Police searched a home Thursday afternoon in the Brighton neighborhood after a school bus was damaged by suspected BB gun fire.

Officers began searching near 44th Avenue S. and S. Holly Street around 3:40 PM after receiving reports someone had shot out two windows on a school bus. Witnesses also reported seeing a man carrying a rifle running down the street near the bus, and into a nearby home.

Police worked with officials at nearby Martin Luther King Jr. Elementary to place the school on lock-down while they searched for the suspect.  SWAT officers responded to the area to search a home but were unable to find the suspect.

While police were searching the home, officers received multiple reports from witnesses, who said a group of teens had been playing with a BB gun in the area shortly before the bus was damaged.

Officers are still investigating the incident, but now believe the bus was damaged by BB gunfire.
