Movies: Beacon Hill Meaningful Movies: On Paper Wings– Details: During World War II, the Japanese military developed a new weapon intended to strike directly at the American continent—the balloon bomb. Thousands of hydrogen-filled balloons were attached to bombs and then launched into the jet stream to drift toward North America. When six civilians found a balloon bomb in southern Oregon (near Bly), the device exploded. They became the only people killed on the continental US as the result of enemy action during World War II. “On Paper Wings” is the story of four Japanese women who worked on the balloon bombs, the families of those killed in Oregon, and the man whose actions brought them all together forty years after World War II and the balloon bomb project. Music: Who is John Smith– Details:Who Is John Smith is Yaw Amponsah and James Whetzel. They play new West African palm wine music on guitar, vox, high hat, and rumba box. Palm wine music is the original acoustic music that is the roots of highlife music, which is in turn the roots of afro-beat. This is the album release party for their first album “Go To Fly”. Music: Urban Mix 101 presented by Itech 4 Life Solutions– Details: An intro to the fundamentals of Digital Audio Recording and Music production. Students will be familiarized with the Protools(DigiDesign) work environment as well as the Reasons workspace. Students will also be introduced to an analog mixing console and learn how the digital and analog systems correlate in a typical recording environment. Music: The Ukadelics– Details: Seattle’s best kept ukulele secret, take the stage with the force of a runaway pineapple truck and heats up your event like a tropical sunset! From quaint beginnings, strumming for friends at an annual backyard Luau, The Ukadelics now play regularly around town for private parties and themed events. Their repertoire is a range of classic “hapa-haole” Hawaiian songs like Blue Hawaii and Tiny Bubbles to show stopping lounge favorites such as Secret Agent Man and I Wanna Be Like You (from The Jungle Book).
