Movies: Opening Day of Jimmy’s HallDetails: In 1921 Jimmy Gralton’s sin was to build a dance hall on a rural crossroads in Ireland where young people could come to learn, to argue, to dream… but above all to dance and have fun. Jimmy’s Hall celebrates the spirit of these free thinkers. The film is set in 1932 and follows events when Jimmy returned from a decade in New York and re-opened the hall. Music: Rainier Valley Roots and Music FestivalDetails: The Rainier Valley Roots & Music Festival is the first fundraiser for KVRU 105.7FM,  aka Rainier Valley Radio.  The all ages event reception and silent auction begins at 6:30p with a DJ, no host bar (21 and older), food and community booths along with an opportunity to create your own radio program. Musical performances and other special features kick-off at 8:00p. The headlining performers, Mycle Wastman, Black Stax, The EriAm Sisters, Porter Ray, Dee Lyle, and pioneering jazz drummer George Griffin and the Senior Drum Line will showcase what KVRU is all about. This stellar group of locally based national recording artists and entertainers are part of KVRU’s efforts to amplify the diverse voices of Rainier Valley live and on-air. What lifestyle changes can we make for ourselves that are affordable, accessible, and uplifting for our community? Join Community Arts Create and many others at the Hillman City Collaboratory. You are invited to join our first Community Public Health Expo. This event is geared to be more than just an exchange of information, but an interactive, information sharing, resource guiding, social engagement activity, highlighting the many ways that “public health” affects all of our lives. The bigger question is, how do we take care of our community as a public health concern?
