District 2 Debate Rematch

Seattle City Council District 2 candidates Bruce Harrell and Tammy Morales, a recent Stranger endorsee, will engage in their second debate in as many weeks, at The New Holly Library this Thursday, Oct 15th, at 6:30pm. The debate is scheduled to last an hour and will be moderated by Andy Clark of Seattle Works. The New Holly Library is located at 7058 32nd Ave.

 

Rainier Beach Youth to Relaunch Open Mic Night

Empire, the South End open mic arts collective that operated from October 2009 to May 2013, is making a comeback. The monthly spoken word and poetry showcase, organized by Rainier Valley area teens and young adults, will begin anew this Saturday at the Youth Arts House, located behind Emerald Bible Fellowship (7728 Rainier Ave S, Seattle). The event is scheduled from 6:30pm to 9:30pm on October 17th.

 

Emerald Executive Director Awarded CrossCut Courage Award

Emerald Executive Director Marcus Harrison Green was awarded Cross Cut’s Courage Award in Culture. Green joins three other Courage Award winners with roots in South Seattle. You can read about all of the winners here.

 

Hillman City’s Rocket Crossfit to Host Filming of National Campaign Commercial to Repeal Citizens United

Rocket CrossFit, in Hillman City, will be hosting organizers of the national campaign to repeal Citizens United from 10am to 3pm tomorrow, October 14th. The campaign will be filming a commercial to be broadcast nationally and a production crew  will be present to interview “those who support government serving the people, and not big business.” Organizers at the event will also be collecting signatures to repeal the law.
