Community: Rainier Beach High School PTSA and IB ProgramDetails: The Rainier Beach High School IB Ambassadors meeting and PTSA Meeting will be combined this month. Both meetings will now happen on Saturday, November 21st from 10am to 12 noon at Rainier Beach Community Center.  During the first half hour of that meeting we will introduce James Williams as the new IB Community Coordinator, share some highlights from the 2014 IB Program at Beach, brain storm about growth folk would like to see in the IB Program moving forward. The goal here is to start a conversation about how staff, families, and the broader South End community can all work together to make our International Baccalaureate program the best it can be for students at RBHS.  The final 60 minutes will be facilitated by the Rainier Beach Parent Teacher Student Association. Community: Building of Hillman City Parklet Details: Hillman City residents will be building a parklet in front of Tin Umbrella Coffee on Rainier Ave S. and Findlay St. The build starts at 8:00 AM, will take approximately 5 hours, and will be celebrated with a community lunch upon completion. My Nguyen, the South Lake student who designed the artwork, will be present at the event. We are expecting to have a City Council member present for the  ribbon cutting which will occur at approximately 2:00 PM.–Time: 8:00am- 2:00pm

Food: Friends of Deadhorse Canyon Cleanup PartyDetails: Friends of Deadhorse Canyon (FODC) is a community-based group which does environmental restoration work and trail enhancement in the Deadhorse Canyon area of Lakeridge Park, in far southeast Seattle. Deadhorse Canyon is a 35-acre natural area in far southeast Seattle. Through it runs the fourth largest creek in Seattle, Taylor Creek. Music: Edna Vazquez Details:Edna performs original compositions that pay homage to her many Latin American influences and frequently mixes in her own arrangements of traditional songs to bring the feeling of Mexico’s Folkloric music to her audience. She sings with a velvety voice and sometimes whistles the melodies to compliment her guitar.
