Below is a list of MLK Day events taking place tomorrow, January 18th, in and around the South End area.

Wham Action Party: MLK Day CleanupDetails: Join the West Hill Action Mob in making #MLKDay2016 a DAY ON, not just a day off. Honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. by serving your community – specifically, by making West Hill’s main street (and West Hill Community Association’s newly adopted stretch of road), Renton Avenue South, SHINE – especially around our new library just days before the grand opening celebration! Meet us at the WHCA office (right around the corner from the KCSO West Hill storefront) at 1pm and we’ll hand out safety gear and game plans. We’ll tackle weeds and litter, so bring your gloves, and any small weeding or pruning tools and litter grabbers you might like to use. City Fruit’s Restore the Orchard and Uncover a Piece of History –Details: We’ll be cleaning up the orchard! Dig blackberry roots (the vines are short). Use weed wrenches to pull out tree-sized Scotch Broom. Help expert pruners by hauling and cutting apple tree branches. Enjoy this hidden gem of an orchard – over 50 fruit trees, including apple, pear, plum, cherry, and quince. MLK Day of Service at Colman Park –Details: Come and join Seattle Parks and Recreation staff for a trail renovation at upper Colman Park. Volunteers needed to prune shrubs and trees from trail pathways, weed and prune planting bed, remove invasive plants and rake all debris from trails. We’ll edge the trail and apply gravel to surface to finish the project-Time: 9:00am- 2:00pm –Where: Colman Park: 1800 Lake Washington Blvd S Seattle, WA 98144- More Info: email paul.smith@seattle.gov

MLK Day at Cheasty Park –Details: Come and join Seattle Parks and Recreation staff for a trail renovation at upper Colman Park. 34th Annual MLK Day Celebration preseneted by the MLK Seattle Celebration Committee-Details: The Martin Luther King Celebration Committee is composed of dozens of grassroots, labor, business, minority, and progressive community organizations and volunteers from throughout the Puget Sound region.
