by Lola E. Peters (based on the sculpture by Angelena McQuarter)
It stirred within me
For a week
I groaned
Moaned
With the pain of it
What would be its shape
Would it be sound
Would it have my spirit
Or yours
Would it do you justice
Would it make us happy
You wouldn’t believe
How much
I labored to give birth
To this simple poem.
