School Board Unanimously Approves Program to Provide Free ORCA Cards to Students

In a unanimous vote that took place last night, all seven board members of Seattle Public Schools voted to approve the ORCA Passport program yesterday. The program will provide thousands of low and middle income students with free bus passes. Students from Rainier Beach High School and other South End area schools where heavily involved in advocacy for the program. 

Mayor to do “Telephone Town Hall” on Housing Affordability

Seattle mayor Ed Murray will be conducting a town hall with Seattle residents via telephone at 6:00pm this evening. Those on the call will have the opportunity to ask the mayor questions regarding the Housing Affordability and Livability Agenda (HALA). Seattlites can call (855)756-7520 Ext. 31028# at 6pm for the town hall.

Detectives Still Investigating Brighton Neighborhood Shooting

Detectives continue to investigate the shooting three men, one fatally, after midnight on Tuesday morning in the Brighton neighborhood.

Police were dispatched to the report of shots fired near Rainier Avenue South and South Garden Street around 12:15 AM. Officers arrived and found three male victims with gunshots, and immediately began providing medical assistance.

One of the men, age 45, was pronounced dead at the scene. The two other men, ages 47 and 50, were transported by Seattle Fire medics to Harborview Medical Center with serious injuries. They are expected to survive.

Homicide Detectives believe that the shootings were targeted and are asking anyone with information to call the Seattle Police violent crimes tip line at 206-233-5000.
