News Gleams: Skyway Park Getting a Facelift, The Beach Set to Light Up, and The Number 7 Reroutes This Weekend

Skyway Park Set for Renovations

King County Council approved $1,000,000 in the county budget for capital improvements to Skyway Park in the West Hill community, at South 120th Place and 70th Place South. Renovations are expected to the park’s ball fields, basketball and tennis courts, picnic area, and play structures.

 

The Beach Lights Prepares to “Light Up”

The 3rd Annual Light Up the Beach Holiday Challenge: All You Need is Love!  will take place December 2nd from 5-8pm. Rainier Beach businesses are inviting community members into their shops to marvel at decorations, enjoy hospitality, and VOTE on their favorites!

The FREE community event takes place all over Rainier Beach, and offers treats like live dance performances, ethnic food bites & beverages, crafts, games, a Ukulele jam, huge luminaria labyrinth, caroling, live music, pop-up shops, and SNOW! The night will get started at Rainier Beach Safeway (9262, Rainier Ave S.) where free Santa Photos will be offered from Derek Johnson Photographic.

 

Re-routes for Number 7 This Weekend

Beginning Saturday, November 19, at 6:00 PM through Sunday, November 20, Route 7 will be rerouted off of Rainier Av S between S Graham St and S Othello St in both directions, due to construction.

During this time, Route 7 will travel via S Graham St, ML King Jr Way S, S Othello St to Rainier Av S then on to its regular route, serving all regular and temporary posted stops along the reroute.

Riders can visit the Service Advisories page for specific reroute information, as transit reroute start and end times may possibly change.

 

County Executive Receives Public Official of the Year Award

Governing magazine named King County Executive Dow Constantine one of its Public Officials of the Year for his Best Start for Kids initiative.

“Yes, seeing the positive impact of one’s work is its own reward, but it is still nice when your work is noticed. I am honored to be recognized with this award, one which reflects the ideals of public service,” Constantine said in a statement.

He will receive the award at a ceremony in Washington, D.C., on Nov. 30.
