South Seattle foodies exhausted with the crowds, price and travel associated with the Bite of Seattle now have a local South End alternative, as Mount Baker is set to host its own taste bud titillating food festival.

The Inaugural Taste of Mount Baker, presented by the Mount Baker Community Club, will take place this Saturday, featuring a jazz ensemble, adult friendly beverages and local chefs.

“Mount Baker has a great community spirit. [The event] is such a great way to make friends and have a fun night out. The response from businesses that will be attending has been amazing. Live music, fine drinks and great food is always a good way to bring people together,” said an enthusiastic Alison Andrew, a member of the Mount Baker Community Center Board, about Saturday’s festivities.

The Mount Baker Community Center Board recently sent out a survey to community members garnering feedback on clubhouse events.  A significant number of respondents wanted to have an event just for “the grown ups”.  The result was the first annual Taste of Mount Baker scheduled for this Saturday June 3rd from 7pm to 10pm at the Mount Baker Community Club.

Besides food, The Taste will feature wine and beer provided by local breweries and wine shops. Local businesses responded enthusiastically to the idea with 18 vendors participating in the event.  People attending will have a chance to sample food products based in South Seattle.

The 21 and over event costs $25.00 per person ($30 at the door) and benefits the more than 100 year old Community Club. The price of admission includes 6 tastes and a souvenir tasting glass. Additional tastes can be purchased for $2.00 each or 3 for $5.00.

Some of the Breweries and wine purveyors participating include Jellyfish Brewing Company, Flying Lion Brewing, Cadence Wineries, Ghostfish Brewing, Vino Verite, NW Peaks Brewery, Elephant Seven Winery, the Saloon and home brew by Mount Baker residents.

The food which is included in the ticket price features offerings from the Feed Store, Mioposto, Emerald City Fish and Chips, Heyday Burgers and Bar, Seattle Fish Guys, and PJ’s Classic Ice Cream.  Special guest chef, and Columbia City resident Jason Intravartolo will be at the event.  The 12 year-old chef who made it through episode 7 of season 3 of the Food Network’s Kid Baking Championship will be providing baked goods.
