Community: Reflect and Remember: Donnie Chin Vigil Details: This event is hosted by The Chin Family & International District Emergency Center (#IDEC). Two years after Donnie’s murder, we gather to celebrate his life and continue the fight for justice. Donnie was a cornerstone of the community, saving numerous lives over close to five decades of service. His case remains unsolved. This event will provide an opportunity for community members to remember Donnie, mourn his loss, share stories, and air frustrations. Speakers will include Connie Chin, Dean Wong, and IDEC leaders. Gathering begins at 8:30 p.m. and a brief program will start around 9:00 p.m. Tea and water will be provided. Since Donnie was not fond of candles, organizers are encouraging participants to bring glow sticks or electronic candles instead. For participants who do bring wax candles, organizers request that these be carried inside jars, mugs, or cups to minimize wax drip and fire risk. Social Justice: Sick & Disabled QTPOC Storytelling– Details: This Freedom Summer event will focus on uplifting the artistic expression of sick and disabled queer and trans people of color (QTPOC), and will especially center Black sick and disabled queer and trans people. In an effort to cultivate communal power, care, and joy, and to build relationship with another, let’s gather and express in whatever way works best for our bodies—whether that is through dance, comedy, music, poetry, visual art, or whatever way you tell stories best.
