Community: 15th Annual Rainier Beach Back 2 School Bash– Details: It’s that time, The 15th Annual Rainier Beach Back2School Bash on Saturday, August 12, 2017 from 12pm – 4pm at Rainier Beach Community Center 8825 Rainier Avenue South. Many have sponsored this event since 2003 and for that we are grateful. We wouldn’t be able to do this event without their support. The purpose for this event is to motivate students and their families who reside and attend school in the Rainier Beach Neighborhood. We provide easy access for families to learn about available resources that can improve their quality of life. There’s many opportunities to support this event by volunteering the day of; set-up, greeters, food server’s fun activities, face painters, backpack and school supply giveaway, clean-up and more, we need volunteers between 9am – 4pm. Movies: Othello Park Pictures: Goonies Details: On Board Othello and Othello Park Alliance are hosting a FREE outdoor cinema series in Othello Park this summer. For our series finale, we will be screening The Goonies. Pack a picnic or truffle shuffle over to the Othello business district to grab some grub to go before heading to Othello Park to watch a group of friends search for lost treasure and evade the bad guys to save their Pacific North West home. We will be projecting the movie a 16-foot inflatable screen located on the stage. Bring lowback lawn chairs or a big blanket to share with friends, family, and neighbors. Movies start at dusk. Fitness: Treat Yourself 5K– Details: Runners and walkers of all ages and ability are invited to the second annual Treat Yourself 5K: A Family Fun Run Benefiting Elders, the Community, and You, at Seward Park on August 12th. This 5K directly benefits poor and vulnerable seniors in Seattle that receive care from Providence ElderPlace and Providence Heritage House at the Market. The Treat Yourself 5K includes various avenues for participants to treat themselves: a healthy activity of a 5K run or walk, time with family and friends, a post-race health fair providing information to encourage a healthy mind, body and soul, and treats to indulge in afterwards! At the post-race fair enjoy complimentary treats from KIND Healthy Snacks, Kevita Kombucha, Caffe Appassionato coffee and many more!
