South End Stew: The Robber of Her Soul

by Lee Claiborne

Robbed of her soul
She now lay coiled in stone

With all hope running from her eyes
And her trust broken like bone

Her whole world now… a single bed
And four walls of pain

A ceiling fan spinning with disgust
And sheets soaked in pain

The stench of his brutal sweat
Still thick like smoke

As he smirks at her through the mirror
While buttoning his coat

As her mind screams to know
How such a smile turns into teeth of gory

She begins to shiver with denial
Thinking NO ONE will ever believe her story
