Rainier Beach Be’er Sheva Planning Committee invites neighbors to celebrate the schematic design for Be’er Sheva Park
The Rainier Beach community is invited to the third meeting for the Be’er Sheva Park improvement project. Please join your neighbors and friends on June 2 from noon to 3 p.m. at Be’er Sheva Park, 8640 55th Ave. S to provide input on the schematic design for the park and to join in a celebratory party.
This community-initiated project received Neighborhood Matching Funds to create a schematic design for improvements at Be’er Sheva Park. Possible improvements include better access to the park’s lakeside end at the S. Henderson St. corridor with greater shoreline access, walkways, and art installations.
The Rainier Beach Link2Lake Open Space Steering Committee hired a landscape architect to facilitate the community engagement process, develop the schematic design and investigate feasibility and permitting requirements. Thank you to everyone who attended the previous meetings in March and April.

Parade Returning to Skyway
The Skyway neighborhood will host its second annual parade and block party on August 18th, from 11:30am to 4:00pm. The parade route will start at the Skyway Library (12601 76th Ave S 98178) and finish at the Medhane Alem Eritrean Orthodox Tewahdo Church (11800 Renton Ave S). Last year’s parade was the first community parade hosted by the unincorporated area in the last two decades. Submissions Open for Mayor’s Arts Awards
Applications are open for The Seattle Office of Arts & Culture’s (ARTS) Mayor’s Arts Awards. The awards celebrate the people and organizations that broaden our horizons and humanize our city and world.
ARTS is looking for nominees, including individuals and organizations who exemplify the following:
A Mayor’s Arts Award Nominee can be a person (of any age or background) or organization that embodies one or more of the qualities below:
Furthering racial equity and social justice
Exemplifies artistic excellence
A leader in the field
Emerging artistic voice
Cultural Icon
Innovation incubator
Fights for arts in education justice
2018 marks the 16th year ARTS has asked the community to nominate the people and organizations that represent our city (past and present), our environment and our aspirations. Tell us who should be recognized for their work in community, in education, in the arts landscape and in living out our hopes for a more just and racially equitable society.
Nominations will be evaluated by a panel comprised of Seattle Arts Commissioners and previous award recipients. Four awardees will be recognized from the pool of nominations.
Recipients for the 2018 Mayor’s Arts Awards will be announced in July and celebrated on Thursday, August 30 at the Mayor’s Arts Awards Ceremony at Seattle Center’s Mural Amphitheatre. The ceremony is free and open to the public and we hope you will join us in celebrating our cultural community!
