Community Night with Sendai Era

“Sendai Era is a Seattle based music duo comprised of emcee Era and producer Sendai Mike. Every week they write a song and make a video inspired by the stories of people in our community. For their April 17th video, they would love to invite all of our amazing community members to participate in a community video shoot in collaboration with the Malaya Movement at Eastern Cafe.

PORCH at Wa Na Wari Art Space

“A Central District home will be converted into art space called Wa Na Wari which means ‘our home’ in Kalabari, the Ijo language of southern Nigeria. A home to rotating exhibitions of contemporary art by Black artists.

“The living room will display our work titled ‘Porch’ The upstairs bedrooms will be filled with new collages by Chi Moscou-Jackson, and videos by Portland-based new media artist Ariella Tai and filmmaker Howard Mitchell.

“UAC celebrates the richness of Black culture with art that embodies Strength, Unity, Courage, Solidarity, and Resilience. Through photography, UAC vividly shows the significance of the porch in the Black community.”

Shayla Lawson – I Think I’m Ready to See Frank Ocean

“Join us here at Third Place Books in Seward Park for a night of poetry with Shayla Lawson and her newest book, I Think I’m Ready to See Frank Ocean.

“Each poem of I Think I’m Ready to See Frank Ocean riffs on a Frank Ocean song, paying homage to the man but also investigating oceans, The Ocean, and the similarity between heartbreak and break beats by blending Frank Ocean’s musical catalog with personal narrative and social critique. I Think I’m Ready to See Frank Ocean builds upon historicized representations of Ocean’s career in ekphrasis, carefully examining the intent of each composition as a metaphoric parallel to Black American legibility.”

“Join the Korean American Coalition (KAC) for our annual Korean American Service Day! Just in time for Earth Day, we will get outdoors and enjoy the spring weather while cleaning up Daejeon Park in Seattle. Daejeon Park is named after Seattle’s sister city in South Korea, Daejeon, and features a beautiful Korean-style pagoda and flowers. Let’s celebrate Korean culture and honor our environment while connecting with fellow community members!!

Mosquita y Mari – Indigenous Showcase X yəhaw̓

“Set in a predominately Mexican, immigrant neighborhood in Los Angeles, Mosquita y Mari tells the story of two 15-year-old Chicanas growing up in H.P. — Huntington Park.

“When Yolanda Olveros (‘Mosquita’) meets her new neighbor, Mari Rodriguez, all they see in each other are their differences. As a sheltered, only-child to her older, immigrant parents, Yolanda’s sole concern is securing her college-bound future. Street-wise Mari hustles to help her undocumented family stay above water. But despite Yolanda and Mari’s contrasting approach to survival, Yolanda and Mari are soon brought together when Mari is threatened with expulsion after saving Yolanda from an incident at school involving Yolanda’s boy-crazed friends… ” Director Aurora Guerrero will be in attendance and a Q&A will follow the screening.

Teleclere EP release party

“Celebrate Seattle Music History with an EP release of never-heard-before songs!

Diversity Checklist Cabaret

“We are raising money for our new works diversity festival happening in September called Diversity Checklist where an Asian American playwright, African American Playwright, and Latinx American Playwright write a group of one acts together and we put it up in one night of theatre!

Offbeat Ada’s: Sex Work is a Feminist Issue

“Join curator and PROS BEFORE BROS author Ariel Meadow Stallings from the Offbeat Empire for an evening of discussion with Pike Long, Deputy Director of St. James Infirmary, the nation’s only clinic operated for and by people in the sex industry. We’ll dive into the details and differences between sex work, trafficking, and exploitation using an intersectional feminist lens. Learn about the current multi-state push for sex work decriminalization and how it differs from legalization and the so-called ‘Nordic model.’

“We’ll also explore first-person perspectives on the potential therapeutic value of sex work, and push back against simplistic narratives that paint all forms of sexual labor as inherently harmful or exploitative. This will be a unique opportunity to ask questions about all this and more. Copies of Ariel’s limited edition erotic book/ jewelry pairing, PROS BEFORE BROS (a story of therapeutic sex work) will be available at the event.

“All proceeds from this event will go toward St. James Infirmary, a peer-based occupational health and safety clinic for sex workers of all genders.” 21+
