No Small Talk: Exploring Blackness Through Candid Conversations

“In partnership with University of Washington’s School of Social Work, this community dialogue series invites and highlights voices and ideas from across the black diaspora on important topics that inform the individual and collective black experience. September’s session is entitled: Keeping Us Together: Examining Mental Health and Wellbeing through a Black Lens. It will be a moderated conversation that includes the voices of performing artists, mental health professionals, spiritual and body workers, writers, authors and more from across the northwest. Free & open to the public!

Georgetown Beer Festival in Seattle’s Original Brewing District

“The inaugural Georgetown Beer Festival celebrates the abundance of craft brewers in Seattle’s south end. As the ancestral home of Rainier Beer – once the 6th largest brewery in the country – Georgetown is our region’s original brewing district. The diverse offerings available at this event continue that tradition. This festival, at the colorful Georgetown Trailer Park Mall, features a diverse selection of boutique beer from Counterbalance Brewing, Elysian Brewing, Flying Lion Brewing, Future Primitive Brewing, Georgetown Brewing, Ghostfish Brewing, Jellyfish Brewing, Lowercase Brewing, Machine House Brewing, Perihelion Brewery, Seapine Brewing, and Tin Dog Brewing. Tickets redeemable for beverages are available on site. ($3 each or 10 for $25) The festival is restricted to ages 21 and over with valid ID.

“Join us at this exciting event on Saturday, September 14 from noon to 5:00 PM. Patrons are encouraged to make an evening of it with a meal at one of our many fine dining establishments followed by the lively Georgetown Art Attack featuring contemporary visual and performing arts presentations throughout the historic neighborhood.” 21+

Keeping it Cool: a Benefit for Climate Solutions

“Climate Solutions and the South Hudson Music Project present: We cared about the climate before it was cool. On Sept. 14, on the eve of the international Climate Action Summit in New York, we’re keeping it cool by raising a glass to effective climate action. Wayne Horvitz and The Royal We will provide the rocking soundtrack as our community comes together to support Climate Solutions. For more than 20 years, Climate Solutions has been a powerful Northwest voice confronting the climate crisis, expanding clean energy solutions, and accelerating a just transition away from fossil fuels.

Gabby Rivera – Juliet Takes a Breath

“Third Place Books Seward Park is thrilled to have Gabby Rivera here for the (re)release of her novel, Juliet Takes a Breath on Tuesday, September 17 at 7pm. The bookstore is on a street-level floor with wide aisles and no stairs to event area or to the gender-neutral, wheelchair accessible restroom. There are two accessible parking spaces available near the front entrance (permit required). We ask that all attendees help make this a fragrance-free zone by not wearing scented products to the event.

Juliet Takes a Breath—A gutsy, queer coming-of-age story perfect for fans of Nina LaCour, Rainbow Rowell, and Elizabeth Acevedo.
