TWISS as we know it is going away. “Noooooo!” You say. And to that we say, “Fear not!” The Emerald is getting a new website and with it a calendar that will make submitting events to us super convenient for you and very easy for us to publish. That means we can feature more of your events! Thanks to our Rainmakers, we’re beyond excited to be able to offer this valuable resource to the community.

(Note: As of March 11, Public Health – Seattle & King County now prohibits large gatherings of more than 250 people. In addition, public events with fewer than 250 attendees are prohibited, unless event organizers can take steps to minimize risk. )

Seattle has a rich Filipino history and a vibrant Filipino community that continues today. This event is a space that aims to bring together the good work that Filipinx organizations and individuals have been doing and allowing our stories to be shared. So join us! Reggie Mosby Jr. Presents The Golden Age Hip Hop Art Expo

“The Golden Age Hip Hop Art Expo will consist of 27 digital and traditional art pieces celebrating the lives of female rap artists both the past and present. The concept and theme of the show is a marriage of true hip hop, and the Golden Age of Hollywood (the 1930s through the 1950s). It will have art pieces that will feature Queen Latifah, Missy Elliot, MC Lyte, and the like.” Event will have food, drinks, music, and “art galore!” More details here.

Freaks Come Out at Night: A Friday the 13th Showcase

“Embark on a galactic journey of sounds, visuals, and otherworldly entertainment as we celebrate the first Friday the 13th of the decade. Featuring music by psychedelic hip-hop group Remember Face, breakbeat DJ Bgeezy, and alt-rock band Sam Squared, with drag entertainment from your host for the evening, D Dynasty. SLOW Ride Exploring the Infamous Red Line

“Senior Ladies On Wheels invite you to ride SLOW to explore the history of Seattle’s infamous Red Line and learn how Seattle’s white citizens created and maintained a racially segregated city. We will ride about 10 miles through Seattle’s historic Central District, following trails and low-traffic streets and riding only the most gradual hills. We stop several times at key points for conversation, and we always wait for each other when we get separated by stop signs, traffic lights, or differences in rider speed. We’ll stop for lunch along the way where we can buy food or eat our own.

“This is Cascade Bicycle Club Free Group Ride. It’s a social ride with experienced ride leaders to grow your confidence with group riding. It is free and open to everyone. The route consists of beautiful trails, a few low-traffic streets, and historic sites.”

14th Annual Urban Poverty Forum

An Examination of Seattle’s Homelessness Policies

“How do we respond to encampments in our city, and how can we better show up for our neighbors experiencing homelessness? The Urban Poverty Forum is an effort to open a dialogue around the systemic issues surrounding urban poverty and to unite a diverse community of care. For this year’s 14th annual Urban Poverty Forum—presented by The Mahogany Project and Real Change—sit in for an in-depth discussion hosted by award-winning former broadcast news anchor Angela Rae. Hear from panelists Dae Shik Kim Hawkins Jr, freelance writer who has covered race, homelessness and religion; ACLU staff attorney Breanne Schuster; and Joe Martin, Social Worker at Pike Place Clinic. Watch a showcase by the Mahogany Project as they perform an artistic interpretation of the issue that impacts our housed and unhoused neighbors in Seattle. Join us for an event that reflects on the past and present state of homelessness in Seattle—connecting with new perspectives and empowering us to take action.”
