SPD Investigating Friday Night Homicide, Fatal Hit And Run

by Emerald Staff

The Seattle Police Department (SPD) says its detectives are investigating the deaths of two people following a string of tragic events Friday night.

According to SPD, detectives with its Gang Unit began their investigation in the 9700 block of 60 Avenue South after almost 70 rounds were fired near an elementary school around 4 pm Friday. One person had a graze wound and was transported to Harborview Medical Center for treatment. Four additional people arrived at Valley Medical Center seeking treatment for gunshot wounds they reportedly received during this incident.

SPD says that officers then responded to the 8700 block of Seward Park Avenue South for multiple reports of gunshots at approximately 8 pm. When officers arrived at the scene of the Atlantic City boat ramp the reported that there was a man who had been shot, according to SPD. Despite attempts by medics, the man died at the scene.

SPD says that witnesses then reported seeing a grey car flee the shooting scene. Later, the man driving that car was allegedly involved in a hit and run collision at the intersection of Rainier Avenue South and Martin Luther King Jr Way South. The driver allegedly struck and killed a pedestrian before leaving the scene, according to SPD.

An occupant of that car was later found at Harborview Medical Center when staff called SPD to report that two individuals arrived with gunshot wounds they claimed to have received at the Atlantic City boat ramp, according to an SPD.

Homicide detectives are currently investigating the shooting while the Traffic Collision Investigators are handling the fatality collision.

SPD says its Detectives are trying to determine any linkage between these events.
