37th District Dems Endorse Thomas-Kennedy for City Attorney, No Mayoral Endorsement

by Emerald staff

In a marathon session, more than 100 37th District Democrats met for nearly five hours on Zoom on the evening of Monday, Sept. 13, to make the organization’s general election endorsements. Endorsements require a 60% majority and included:

City Attorney

NICOLE THOMAS-KENNEDY received 66.3% of the vote over Ann Davison. In a top-two primary, incumbent Pete Holmes came in third.

City Council, Position 9

NO ENDORSEMENT received 66.2% of the vote, considered a win for Nikkita Oliver. This at-large, citywide position was vacated by mayoral candidate Lorena González. The vote was between candidate Sara Nelson and No Endorsement, the focus of supporters of Nikkita Oliver as 37th District bylaws require that endorsements are for declared Democrats and Oliver is a member of the Seattle Peoples Party.

Seattle Mayor

NO ENDORSEMENT received 60.7% of the final vote between Dual Endorsement of both Lorena González and Bruce Harrell or No Endorsement. This vote was considered a victory for González against a longtime 37th District resident and former city councilmember in his own district. The final vote took four ballots and went well after 11 p.m. In the first two rounds, González received 59.2%, not quite reaching the 60% threshold. In the same rounds, Harrell received 37.7% and 39.2%, respectively.

Complete 37th District Democratic endorsements will be posted on their website at http://37thdems.org/.
