Tacoma environmentalist Melissa Malott says that the draft rules for Tideflats development under consideration by City Council this fall improve on the City’s interim rules, which place no limit on expansion of existing fossil fuel facilities such as the city’s refinery and LNG plant. But Malott says the Council’s draft does not reflect the “code red” climate emergency identified by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, which says greenhouse gas emissions need to be halved by 2030: “It’s so lacking compared to what we have to do in 8.5 years.” (Photo: Dan DeLong/InvestigateWest)
