Seattle Parks and Recreation invites the community to provide input on design options for Brighton Playfield renovation. Please join us at a public meeting for the Brighton Playfield improvement project on Wed., Oct. 5, 2016 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Aki Kurose Middle School, 3928 S Graham St, Seattle, WA 98118. Seattle Parks and Recreation encourages the community and field users to attend and provide input on the project.

The Cynthia A Green Family Center Welcomes Miss Helen Sawyer as Their Kinship Care Group Facilitator

Welcome Miss Helen Sawyer!

Miss Helen as her friends refer to her has come out of retirement to return to her first love advocating for Kinship families.  She agreed to be the Group Facilitator of the Kinship Support Group at the Cynthia A Green Family Center.   She was in attendance at the Kinship Fair held at the Rainier Community Center which was well attended and offered almost any resource a Kinship Caregiver needed as well as clothing and books.  It was exciting to see Miss Helen talking, smiling and laughing with other Kinship caregivers.  Continue reading The Cynthia A Green Family Center Welcomes Miss Helen Sawyer as Their Kinship Care Group Facilitator

Mayor Proposes Gunfire Locator System for Rainier Valley and Central District

Seattle Mayor Ed Murray will host a community discussion in South Seattle this Thursday on a proposed one- year pilot project to reduce gun violence in the Rainier Valley and Central District called the Acoustic Gunshot Locator System (AGLS). The gunshot locator tool uses a combination of acoustic and optical sensors to detect the location of weapon fire. Mayor Murray says AGLS has been credited with reducing gun crime in other cities and its proposal comes as a response to public safety concerns of many residents in the two areas.
