Tasveer South Asian Film Festival

11-day event, begins tonight!—“Tasveer South Asian Film Festival is the largest South Asian film festival in the United States. Seeking to provide a counterpoint to the images and stories prevalent in main stream South Asia and Bollywood, the festival encourages an atmosphere of thoughtful dialogue and creative inquiry, where filmmakers and audiences engage in lively discussions, forums, and other collaborative interactive formats. In 2018, the festival will screen over 65 films and welcome 5000 attendees over 11 days, in 5 cities.

“We are so excited to welcome our weekly food pop-up!! Every Friday, we will have Po’Boys for sale from 6-10pm. These Po’ Boys are some of the best you will ever try – New Orleans style and fresh. We will have Catfish, Shrimp, and Oyster Po’ Boys!! Where else can you get a fresh Po’ Boy in Seattle? Nowhere. So come join us and order a Po’ Boy and a Sangria. See you all Friday night!”

“An evening to celebrate and share a new 3 month art residency for Tanya Dean in Columbia City Theatre’s Bourbon Bar!! Incident Exposure is an exploration of the inner mind. Ink blots are a recognizable artifact of early psychology, deriving meaning from the human brain’s ability to seek patterns. This aim of this series is to demonstrate the effects of life and living, exposing a ‘self’ to reality and collecting and integrating those experiences. Live electronic music performances by: Djime, Alpha Stream, Zen Seizure; Live art on canvas provided by: Tanya Dean, Jeff Harrison, Kevin Ducoing.”

“Vocalist, Composer and Professor Johnaye Kendrick returns to the Royal Room for her sophomore album release, Flying, a collection of originals, finely crafted arrangements, and MAGIC! Johnaye is ‘not just a vocalist,’ said legendary saxophonist Jimmy Heath. ‘She is a complete musician with a beautiful instrument and open ears.’ With Kendrick’s sterling vocals, fantastic original compositions and bright, warm disposition she’s always sure to give an exciting and authentic performance. Featuring Bill Anschell (piano), Chris Symer (bass), and D’Vonne Lewis (drums).”
