Rainier Beach Library Expected to Close Temporarily

The Seattle Public  Library announced today that the Rainier Beach Branch,  located at 9125 Rainier Ave. S., is tentatively set to close effective Monday, Aug. 24, 2015, for the rest of the year while the building is partially reroofed, other maintenance is performed and the interior is reconfigured to better meet the needs of the community. Duwamish Respond to Federal Decision Against Tribal Recognition

Last Wednesday Duwamish Chairperson Cecile Hansen spoke to the press and those concerned for Native rights who had gathered at the Duwamish Longhouse in Seattle to decry the Bureau of Indian Affair’s decision that the Duwamish tribe did not meet the federal guidelines for tribal recognition. Fire at Columbia City Butcher

The roof of Bob’s Quality Meats, located at 4861 Rainier Avenue South, caught fire  earlier this  afternoon . The fire rapidly spread to the adjacent Columbia City Bakery before firefighters were able to get it under control a little before 4:15pm.

The exact cause of the fire has yet to be determined. No one was reported injured.

As firetrucks and ambulances remain at the scene, city officials are advising commuters to avoid Rainier Avenue South from Edmunds to Hudson.

One Hood United: Former, Current Gang Members March Together for Peace

“Family Members, not family feud. You stand with me, I’ll stand with you”. The proclamation of unity rang from Downtown to Belltown Friday evening as over 200 former and current gang members with roots in South Seattle and the Central District joined with their allies to pound the pavement in protest of a “structurally flawed injustice system” and to demand accountability from local elected officials.
