Support for Homeless Encampment Growing in Othello Neighborhood

Othello Village is situated on Martin Luther King Jr. Way, a main stretch in South Seattle, sitting behind a mini mart and across from an expansive residential neighborhood. It’s the very definition of a juxtaposition.

It’s Labor Day Weekend once again, and thousands of Seattleites and non-Seattleites alike are trucking from their respective residences to take part in Seattle’s very own Bumbershoot. Homespun stages are set up around Key Arena, where the biggest names perform.  The Seattle Center area comes alive with vendors selling – as my mother calls it – hippie bullshit. Fried PB&J sandwiches and questionable Thai food remnants scatter the paths. It’s one part music festival, one part fair, and one part culture fest, a medley of events that only Seattle typically shoves together. Who: Kris Kendall

Known Around South Seattle As: “That freakishly intelligent volunteer tutor guy who I think does something important at Microsoft.”

Nickname: Doesn’t really have one,  though when his siblings want to bug him they call him “Krissy.”

“A Shooting” on Henderson and Renton Avenue

Gun shootings in the South-end are sometimes exaggerated, and other times, they are underreported. But this kind of shooting rarely gets exposure in South Seattle.
