It’s the Year of the Wood Dragon!

The Lunar New Year is an important holiday in cultures across Asia, beckoning the arrival of spring and generally celebrated with food, dance, family, and tons of convivial festivities.

In 2024, the world is welcoming the Year of the Wood Dragon, with the dragon itself representing good luck and protection. “The element of wood is seen in Daoist tradition as a return to the natural state of being, which in the dragon’s case points to a return to kindness,” NBC News reports. “And Confucian thought interprets wood as a symbol of unlimited potential.”

How One Seattle Clinic Is Addressing the Importance of HIV Care Within the AAPI Community

Last year, Seattle’s International Community Health Services (ICHS) was awarded a nearly $1 million grant to expand HIV prevention services for its patients. 

The three-year grant is part of the Ending the HIV Epidemic initiative that allows the clinic to increase both HIV screening and the capacity of providers who can offer HIV treatment and training.

A new exhibit is on display at the Wing Luke Museum — Guma’ Gela’: Part Land, Part Sea, All Ancestry. Guma’ Gela’, or “House of Gays” as it translates to in the native CHamoru language, is a queer art collective for people from the Mariana Islands and its diaspora.

Massive Monkees Celebrates 24 Years With a Hip-Hop Dance Competition, Community Jams, and Live Music

Celebrating 24 years of evolving a distinctly Seattle hip-hop culture, Massive Monkees will kick off their yearly celebration, Massive Monkees Day, on Saturday, May 27. The three-day event will include a hip-hop breaking competition with cash prizes for the winners, outdoor events with vendors and food, and live performances from Seattle’s legendary B-boy crew.

This month commemorates the history, contributions, and talents of Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians, and Pacific Islanders (AA&NH/PI), who have shaped American identities and culture for centuries. Seattle has a long history of Asian American and Pacific Islander artists, leaders, and activists, from “Uncle Bob” Santos to Bruce Lee, among many others today. As AA&NH/PI communities continue to fight for the rights and liberties of their people, here and abroad under U.S. power, we continue to recognize their stories and struggles.

White House Economic Summit Dedicated to Aiding Local AA & NHPI Business Owners
