I’m married to a Seattle Public Schools teacher with over two decades of service. In that time, she has been a positive force in the lives of hundreds of kids and a champion for the historically under-resourced community where she teaches. She has been steadfast in her role, despite working for a district marked by disarray, high turnover, and a strangely disdainful attitude toward the very teachers in its employ.

Hot Dogs and Booze — Lottie’s Lemonade Stand Serves as Columbia City’s “Speakeasy”

Lottie’s Lounge, known as “Columbia City’s Living Room,” is back in limited service with a new, outdoor lemonade stand. Located on the patio, Lottie’s Lemonade Stand sells hot dogs, vegan Field Roast dogs, hot links, bratwurst, popcorn, slushies, iced tea, and of course, fresh-made lemonade. They also sell takeout beer and wine, and their in-house made drinks come with the option of adding alcohol. As one of their recent Instagram posts stated, they serve both lemonade and “lemonade.”

Dear the Beauster: Who is More Powerful, God or the Seattle Teacher’s Union?

Dear The Beauster,

 I’m hoping you’ll settle a debate my roommate and I have been having over the last month. For background he’s a deist and I’m more of an agnostic. The question we have struggled to come to terms on is: Who is more powerful, God or Seattle Teachers and the Teacher’s Union?
