Food Review: Perihelion Brewery Hits It Out of the Park

If you haven’t yet visited the newest addition to the food/drink options on Beacon Hill, Perihelion Brewery, you’re overdue. Located kitty corner from the Beacon Hill light rail station and the Red Apple market it is a welcoming, family-friendly addition to the neighborhood. My co-workers and I managed to grab a sunny outdoor table during happy hour (4-5pm) last week, first sampling (and becoming addicted to) the guest cider on tap, a Schilling’s seasonal grapefruit cider, accompanied by the house sweet potato fries appetizer (hungry yet?). South Seattle’s 24th annual extravaganza known as the Rainer Valley Heritage Parade & Festival kicks off this Saturday.  This year, the Rainier Chamber is partnering with Parks and Recreation’s Big Day of Play and SDOT’s Summer Parkways; turning the whole Valley into huge party of home grown entertainment, athletics, games, food, music and fun.

Moonlight Movie Series Returns to “Scrappy” Skyway Community

This Friday evening welcomes the beginning of another month of open-air cinema in what’s become tradition for those who live and work in the area, and others who come out to the event in appreciation of the community. Neighbors, parents and children will sit on blankets, in laps or chairs as they watch Disney PIXAR’s Inside Out, though the real magic will not just be on the screen, but among all in attendance. South End Community Celebrates A “Night Out”

Community members, businesses and law enforcement gathered for events in Seattle’s South End for the National Night Out event on Tuesday evening, amid gatherings around the city and country. The space adjacent to the Safeway parking lot turned into a late afternoon party complete with burgers and hot dogs being cooked by Safeway employees and Seattle Police Department’s Detective Denise “Cookie” Bouldin playing chess with opponents of all ages. Seattle REI Employees Celebrate Wage Hike, Say More Still Needs to Be Done

Local REI Employees joined dozens of supporters at a press conference outside the company’s flagship store in downtown Seattle this afternoon to celebrate what they called a “resounding victory” after the recreational co-op announced it would be raising wages for Seattle employees to $15 an hour beginning August 21. What’s for breakfast in Columbia City?  If you were at Chef Tarik Abdullah’s pop up brunch last Sunday you might have had the lamb hash cooked with dates, chickpeas, kale and served over polenta, or the cauliflower salad with spiced cashew crème.
