Get a COVID Vaccine Through ICHS

International Community Health Services (ICHS) continues to receive COVID vaccine supplies and to vaccinate both patients and non-patients alike. ICHS was recently named by the U.S. Health Resources and Services Administration as one of the first community health centers to receive COVID-19 vaccines from the federal government, and they are receiving regular shipments from this and other sources.

No More Black and Brown Children in Cages: The Reality of Racism and Ableism in SPS Today

We are horrified and deeply saddened by the latest news uncovering the egregious treatment of a Black student at View Ridge Elementary School. As recently reported by KUOW, a Black second-grader named Jaleel at View Ridge Elementary School was locked up in an outdoor cage without a table or chair, multiple times, left to eat his lunch off the tray on the ground. Adult school staff, entrusted to teach and keep Jaleel safe, decided instead that putting him repeatedly (sometimes for the entire school day) in a fenced outdoor space dubbed “the cage” was an appropriate restraint for a second-grader.

Arts Festival Affirms Value of Children of Color

More than 70 years ago, Kenneth and Mamie Clark conducted a study on both Black and white children’s attitudes towards race and racial preference. The children in the study overwhelmingly favored lighter skin over darker skin. And while feelings about their skin color have improved, a 2010 study showed that Black children still associate “goodness” with lighter skin.
