Washington Leaders and Pro-Choice Advocates Protest Draft Opinion Overturning Roe v. Wade

Washington leaders joined a growing national protest Tuesday, May 3, after news site Politico obtained and published a Supreme Court draft opinion showing the court has voted to overturn Roe v. Wade, a landmark 1973 decision ensuring a woman’s right to an abortion.

Gov. Inslee and King County Announce End to Mask Mandate as of March 12

Washington Gov. Jay Inslee announced on Feb. 28 that State mandates for indoor masking would lift on March 12.

“We must still be mindful that many within our communities remain vulnerable. Many businesses and families will continue choosing to wear masks, because we’ve learned how effective they are at keeping one another safe,” he cautioned in a written announcement

With Vaccination Rate Rising, State Prepares to Reopen No Later Than June 30

Washington State is just a hair’s breadth away from reaching its goal of a 70% vaccination rate among people aged 16 and older, but Gov. Jay Inslee said in an afternoon press conference on June 9 that the state would essentially fully reopen on June 30, regardless of whether the state reaches its vaccination rate goal by that date.

Three Tacoma Police Officers Charged in the Killing of Manuel Ellis

Three Tacoma police officers have been charged with felonies in the March, 2020, killing of Manuel Ellis, Washington Attorney General Bob Ferguson said Thursday — after multiple investigations into a case that has set off protests and resulted in changes in statewide police accountability laws.

Ferguson charged Officers Christopher Burbank and Matthew Collins with second-degree murder and Officer Timothy Rankine with first-degree manslaughter.
