KD Hall Foundation and American Red Cross to Host Blood Drive Sept. 7 to Raise Awareness for Sickle Cell Disease

From 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sept. 7, KD Hall Foundation and American Red Cross will host a blood drive to raise awareness and support for sickle cell disease (SCD) and sickle cell research.

“We are putting a sickle cell at the forefront, and the reason why is because nobody talks about sickle cell. There’s not a lot of money going into sickle cell [research],” said KD Hall, founder of KD Hall Foundation.

KD Hall Foundation to Hold Leadership Conference for Girls in Honor of Women’s History Month

On Saturday, March 25, the KD Hall Foundation, a nonprofit organization for women and girls, will be holding an all-girl conference, for girls ages 11 to 17, to celebrate Women’s History Month. Rising Together: Advancing Pay Equity and Leadership Opportunities for Women and Girls will be about educating members of the Girls on the Rise (GOTR) program about pay equity and opportunity gaps, as well as to get more girls involved with GOTR. The Foundation’s annual conferences are an integral part of its goal to educate, mentor, and support young girls to become leaders and change-makers in their communities. The girls will hear from several distinguished guests, like Seattle Storm Community Relations Director and retired WNBA player Crystal Langhorne, and will be invited to participate in workshops centered around leadership, confidence building, entrepreneurship, and networking.

Award-Winning Entrepreneur KD Hall Aims to Take Her Businesses to the Next Level

Local business owner KD Hall has been on fire this year. As CEO and principal consultant of KD Hall Communications and president and CEO of the KD Hall Foundation, Hall has received nine awards this year including South Sound Business 40 Under 40, Puget Sound Business Journal 40 Under 40, and a nomination for a Northwest Regional Emmy Award.

The Emerald caught up with Hall to learn a little more about the woman behind the awards and successful businesses.

Hall, who has been operating out of Seattle for the past eight years, is originally from Detroit, Michigan. She met her husband and business partner, David Hall, in high school. The two attended Oakland University in Michigan together and moved to Washington when David joined the U.S. Air Force.

“I remember at that time, it was difficult and there was a lot of tension in our country and we were at war under George W. Bush in 2006,” Hall says of her husband’s journey in the Air Force. He looked at it as a tool and as an opportunity to be able to give him a chance to do more in his life and to provide for our family that we planned to create. David excelled in the Air Force snagging many awards including Airmen of the year.

‘Girls on the Rise’ Is Seeking Freshman Applicants for Leadership Development

The KD Hall Foundation is currently seeking applicants for their “Girls on the Rise” (GOTR) program, which aims to develop leadership skills for 20–30 freshmen in the Greater Seattle area who will be chosen for the cohort. Applications for the program are currently open and will be closing March 23, with interviews starting on March 26 for applicants.

Kela D. Hall is the CEO and cofounder of the KD Hall Foundation and was inspired to create a program specifically for high school girls after finishing her inaugural 2015 programming called “Women on the Rise.” She realized that there was a need to serve and provide opportunities for BIPOC high school girls as they continue their development through high school.
