Opportunity Center and Affordable Housing Near Othello Station in Flux Over Cleanup Concerns

An affordable housing developer got a reprieve as the minutes ticked down toward its deadline to move forward with plans for a mixed-use building as part of an ambitious four-building complex near the Othello Link light rail station in South Seattle.

HomeSight leaders are expected to send a new proposal for Building A of the Othello Square campus project — which includes the Opportunity Center with more than 200 units of affordable housing above it — for a vote at its board meeting this week. If approved, the developer will receive a 90-day extension to purchase the Building A property for the development from the Seattle Housing Authority (SHA). The original deadline to buy the parcel was Jan. 15, but SHA granted an extension, and HomeSight’s board is expected to consider the proposal on Thursday, Feb. 11.

Outdoor Dining Expands to Othello on Saturday Under SDOT Pilot Program

A new program to convert Seattle streets into open-air café spaces will expand to the Othello neighborhood this weekend, with organizers closing a dead-end road to vehicle traffic and setting up patio-style seating for the community. Othello International Festival A“Box-Sized” Gift This Year

The cars started lining up in the New Holly Campus Parking lot a half-hour before the 2020 Othello International Festival in a Box was to start on Friday afternoon. The event was scheduled to begin at 4 pm and go until 8 pm, but in less than an hour all 150 boxes had been given away.

Bang Bang Kitchen: Three Times the Charm for a Successful Sister Duo

With the success under their belt of Café Pettirosso and Bang Bang Café, the sister team of Miki and Yuki Sodos have launched into a new venture in South Seattle. Bang Bang Kitchen on 4219 S Othello, offers a menu similar to Bang Bang Café, but the stepped-up kitchen design has helped them expand the menu considerably. The Othello Block Party celebrated arts, culture, music, entrepreneurship, and community Saturday at Othello Station. The event was sponsored by the MLK Business Association, Seattle Department of Neighborhoods, South Seattle Emerald, Homesight, OnBoard Othello, UW Commons, Office of Arts & Culture, Assembly 118, and The Grocery, and was coordinated by Cafe Red and Artist Coalition for Equitable Development.
