Rainier Beach Action Coalition’s Annual Back2School Bash Is Back in Full Effect

On Saturday, Aug. 27, Rainier Beach Action Coalition (RBAC) will hold their 19th annual Back2School Bash at the Rainier Beach Community Center Plaza from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. Led by community organizer and founder of Changing Habits and Motivating Personal Self-Esteem (CHAMPS) Danielle Jackson, the 19th annual event will give out free backpacks full of school supplies and other educational resources to students as they enter the 2022–2023 school year. Food and entertainment will also be provided.

Rainier Beach Action Coalition and Community Continue Public Safety Efforts

Before the issue of community safety came to the forefront of the nation’s conscience after the BLM protests in 2020, members of the Rainier Beach community and the Rainier Beach Action Coalition (RBAC) had already been working for several years to build a greater sense of safety in their own community.

Rainier Beach Action Coalition Unveils Mural in Be’er Sheva Park

Last Saturday afternoon, many braved the heatwave to gather at Be’er Sheva park to celebrate the unveiling of the park’s first mural.

The event was a collaboration between Rainier Beach Action Coalition (RBAC), Art of Resistance and Resilience (ARR), Link2Lake, and Seattle Department of Neighborhoods. 

Those involved spent five days working in the sun, and the previous two months planning the mural, in preparation for this celebration.

Collective Against Gun Violence Launched Amid Record Year of Incidents

As incidents of gun violence in King County are set to hit a new record so far this year, a group of community members and government leaders gathered on June 4, 2021 — a date that King County declared as Regional Community Safety and Well-being Day — to announce a new collective that will work to prevent more shootings.
