Annual Seattle/King County Clinic Returned to Seattle Center to Provide Free Medical Care to People From All Walks of Life

Thousands of people flocked to Seattle Center from Feb. 15 to Feb. 18, arriving as early as 5:30 a.m., to receive free vision, dental, and medical care at the annual Seattle/King County Clinic. The clinic, run by a team of about 3,000 volunteer medical professionals, interpreters, and support staff led by founder Julia Colson, has served over 27,000 patients over the last nine years.

“It’s really unbelievable,” said Chelsea Riddick-Most, director of programs and events at Seattle Center. “Patients start at Fisher Pavilion where they get a ticket. Our doors open at midnight but what we’ve seen is people start getting in line around 8 o’clock.”

OPINION: One of the Largest Free Healthcare Clinics in the Country Proves We Need a Single Payer System

The fifth Seattle/King County Clinic starts Thursday September 20 at KeyArena. More than 4,000 people will descend on Seattle Center seeking free medical, vision, and dental care over the four days of the clinic. According to the Clinic’s website, the clinic has provided 16,300 patients with almost $14 million in direct services given by more than 13,800 volunteers over the past four years. This is an incredible accomplishment, and I am even considering getting in line myself on September 20 for some vision or dental care because neither are covered under my incredibly expensive health insurance policy.

Free Clinic Assists Thousands, Highlights Lack of Healthcare Access

Hundreds of eager patients waited patiently in long lines outside of Key Arena on Thursday for the first day of the Seattle/King County Clinic.
