Creators of ‘The Black Trans Prayer Book’ Address Spiritual Needs of Black Trans People at SPL’s Online Event Friday

This Friday, Dec. 11, the co-editors of The Black Trans Prayer Book (TBTPB), J Mase III and Lady Dane Figueroa Edidi, along with other contributors, will share readings, perform, and connect at a Seattle Public Library online event. A collection over three years in the making, TBTPB was released in April and features poems, stories, rituals, spells, and theology by Black trans people of many faiths and spiritual traditions. At once a tool for reclaiming spirituality and healing from religious trauma, TBTPB is also an important contribution to liberation theology, which views religion as a means of liberation for oppressed people.

PHOTOS: Seattle Celebrates Pride 2019

The big parade takes place every year downtown, but a number of events around the city and particularly the South End highlight the diversity of the month-long celebration. South Seattle Emerald contributors Carolyn Bick and Guy Oron offered up their images of Pride from several events this year. And a group of Seattle Pride parade participants shared their view on war and militarism.

Undeterred by Threats, Trans Pride Will Spread Radical Joy

People will gather Friday for the seventh annual Trans Pride Seattle parade and celebration. Every year, thousands of trans, gender non-conforming, and queer people converge from throughout the Pacific Northwest to share joy, be in community with each other and take pride in being who they are.
