Free Tax Preparation Online From United Way of King County

Feb. 12–Apr. 18, 2021

United Way of King County will offer virtual Free Tax Preparation services (available in 20 languages) to low- and moderate-income working families with the assistance of IRS-certified volunteers starting on Friday, Feb. 12. The trained volunteers will help filers claim all the credits for which they are eligible, including the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC), which is widely considered a powerful tool to help people get out of poverty. Due to the coronavirus pandemic social distancing guidelines, in-person tax preparation assistance will not be available this year.

OPINION: Yes, Your Vote Matters

In a couple of weeks, Washington State will mail out ballots for one of the most critical elections of our lifetimes. While every election is important, this upcoming contest has the potential to alter the course of our nation for generations, so every vote will count. 

In the last presidential election, almost 77% of eligible, voting-age Washingtonians registered to vote — the highest percentage since 1984. However, turnout was only 65%. In King County, turnout declined by nearly 3% compared to 2012. Statewide, it went down by a similar amount.

While 65% turnout is high relative to other states, that leaves room for improvement.
