With the spookiest night of the year fast approaching, the South Seattle Emerald has gathered some haunted happenings around the South End here so you, friends, and family can spend a scary (and safe!) Halloween together. From pumpkin hunts to trunk or treats, there’s something here for all the ghosts, goblins, and ghoulies to enjoy all weekend long.

FRIDAY, OCT. 29
Skyway Virtual Cinema Presents BEETLEJUICE

Treat Pickup on Oct. 28, 6–8 p.m. at Skyway Outdoor Cinema lot (across from Skyway Library)
Skyway Virtual Cinema is back to bring you a Halloween weekend with everyone’s favorite ghost-filled film Beetlejuice! No need to shout their name three times; just register at https://mywesthill.typeform.com/beetlejuice to get free 72-hour access to the film in your web browser, starting on Friday, Oct. 29.
Want some snacks to go with your movie? Well, you don’t have to wait for trick or treating! You can grab a FREE treat-filled Cinema Pack on Thursday, Oct. 28, between 6 and 8 p.m. at the Skyway Outdoor Cinema lot across the street from Skyway Library.

The Great Pumpkin Hunt

Rec’N The Streets, the Seattle Parks and Recreation program that brings you the popular mobile playgrounds, is hosting two special phantasmal pumpkin hunts on Saturday, Oct. 30. The first is in New Holly in the afternoon from 12 to 2 p.m. and the second is at the Jefferson Community Center in the evening from 3 to 5 p.m.

OthelloWeen Community Harvest Event
Oct. 30 — 12–4 p.m.

From the host: HomeSight and Othello Square are teaming up to bring the neighborhood the first OthelloWeen Community Harvest Event on Oct. 30 from 12 to 4 p.m.! OthelloWeen will feature festive fall family activities, “cackling” community resources, “frightening” free food, and (of course) plenty of “chilling” candy. So grab your costume (encouraged but not required!), shop at some local “batty” business pop-ups, take a “wicked” walking tour, and participate in so much more!

Boo-In-Burien: Trick or Treat
Oct. 30 — 12–4 p.m.
Downtown Burien and Olde Burien, SW 152nd St., Burien, WA 98166
Head to Downtown Burien and Olde Burien for the annual Boo-In-Burien’s Trick or Treat! This family-friendly, candy-filled affair will be on Saturday, Oct. 30, between 12 and 4 p.m. throughout the Downtown Burien Business Core. Don your costumes (and your face masks!), and don’t forget to bring a bag or bucket for all those tantalizing treats!
Look for a sign in the window of participating businesses. Masks will be required indoors and in the crowded outdoor event areas.

T’Challaween 2021: A South End Tribute to Our Heroes
Oct. 30 — 1–4 p.m.
South College Street to the South Spokane Street entrance to Jefferson Park
By popular request, the South Seattle Emerald is bringing back T’Challaween: A South End Tribute to Our Heroes! T’Challaween is a socially distant costume parade along the Beacon Hill Stay Health Street (from South College Street to the South Spokane Street entrance to Jefferson Park). Join the community for the candy-filled costume parade, a haunted house contest, The South End Public Market (at the end of the parade), live music, and more on Oct. 30 from 1 to 4 p.m.!

Seattle Transoween 2021
Oct. 30 — 5–10 p.m.
Seward Park, Around Shelter #3
Calling all trans and nonbinary folk (including two-spirit, agender, gender nonconforming, questioning, and other folks who do not identify as cis)! Come celebrate the autumnal season with community at Seward Park for Transoween on Oct. 31 from 3 to 5 p.m. Chill with some spooky-themed snacks, magical music, a family-friendly atmosphere, and pumpkin carving (BYOP).
Bring your awesome, beautiful self, a pumpkin for carving, any other snacks you might like, and an optional genderful (or genderless) costume to make new friends, enjoy current friends, and/or just be around wonderful trans community members.
From the hosts: “Halloween can be a weird time for trans and nonbinary people — the gender expectations, the cis gaze, weird feelings about gender as a costume, the chance to freely present like you want, etc. So forget all that, and be around other trans folk who get it!”

Kid’s Halloween Tricks & Treats
Oct. 31 — 10 a.m.–12 p.m.
The Stonehouse Cafe, 9701 Rainier Ave. S., Seattle, WA 98118
The Stonehouse Cafe is hosting a special Kid’s Halloween Tricks & Treats event on Oct. 31! Bring your family to partake in decorating phantasmal pumpkins and creepy cookies, or if you’re feeling brave enough, journey through the Haunted House. Costumes are highly encouraged, especially since there will be rewards for best costumes!
RSVP for The Stone House Cafe’s event by calling The Stone House Cafe or emailing info@thestonehousecafe.com. The cost is $10 per participant, which covers products and treats.

Boo Bash at the Beach 2021

Boo Bash at the Beach is baaaack! So grab your costume and your biggest treat bucket and join the community for a fun, safe, family-friendly trunk-or-treating event at the parking lot of the Rainier Beach Community Center on Oct. 31 from 2 to 5 p.m. There will be “colossal caches of candy,” ghoulish games, eerie entertainment, and various community resources!
Please note that this year’s Boo Bash is at the Rainier Beach Community Center (8825 Rainier Ave. S.) and NOT Safeway. All guests are required to wear masks (COVID-19 safe ones, not just costumed ones!) throughout the event.

Halloween on The Patio

The Columbia City Business Association is hosting Halloween on The Patio! With silly and spooky Halloween scenes perfect for phantom pictures and spooky selfies, Lottie’s Tunnel of Terror, and (of course) crazy amounts of candy, Columbia City community members won’t want to miss out on all the festive fun on Oct. 31 from 2 to 5 p.m.!

Spooktacular Halloween Trunk or Treat

Teamsters Hall, 14675 Interurban Blvd., Tukwila, WA
The Pacific NW Teamsters National Black Caucus, MLK Labor, Access 2, WA YELL, and the Washington State Labor Council, AFL-CIO present their Spooktacular Halloween Trunk or Treat on Oct. 31 at 3 p.m.! Come dressed up in costume for a family-friendly evening of fun-filled trunk or treating from decorated vehicles. There will be plenty of candy treats, raffle prizes, food, music, and even a community career fair!
