Quenton Baker: Ballast

“Quenton Baker’s poetry focuses on how black interiority functions under the constraints of an anti-black society. His exhibition at the Frye Art Museum will be an outgrowth of an in-process collection of poems that examines the 1841 slave revolt aboard the brig Creole, using the event as a kaleidoscopic lens through which to consider the position of blackness and the ongoing afterlife of slavery.” Exhibit live through February 3, 2019.

“El Centro de la Raza, located in Beacon Hill, is selling Christmas trees from November 23 through December 20 (or until supplies last). We are selling fresh and organic trees – Nordman, Noble, and Douglas Firs – available in various heights. When you purchase a Christmas tree from El Centro de la Raza, you are supporting small business owners of color Adrian and Evencio Gonzales, two brothers who supply, own, and operate in Onalaska, Washington.

“You can purchase and pick up your tree at our Christmas Tree Lot located on the north side of the building located at 2524 16th Ave South.

“This event helps El Centro de la Raza raise funds to support our human services and community-building programs that benefit 14,000+ vulnerable and underrepresented children, adults, and families annually. “Hustle came to Seattle almost two years ago and we want to continue to grow it by giving an opportunity for both new and current hustle dancers to grow together! Hustle SEA will provide lessons to new/beginners on hustle basics for the first 30 min of the session and the rest of the session will be for hustle dancing or solo dancing or both! Your choice. Also, current hustlers are encouraged to help beginners and share their knowledge on old/new hand patterns! WHAT IS HUSTLE? >> Hustle is a partner/social dance in the 1970s from New York. It was commonly danced to disco music. It is common to have a lead/follow who follow a ‘track’ when dancing.”
